Benefis Healthcare is a mission driven, strategy led, locally governed Catholic sponsored community/regional hospital. Benefis is a faith-based organization that is sponsored by Providence Services, a two state multiple organization Catholic health system. Benefis Healthcare includes:

  • The separately incorporated and governed Benefis Foundation works collaboratively with Benefis Healthcare and provides vital support to Benefis Healthcare.

Benefis' mission, commitment to quality of care and enhanced delivery of services are at the forefront of its operations. For example, Benefis Healthcare touts a Level II Trauma Center - one of only four in the state and 89 in the entire country, is beating state and national infection rates in the surgical arena, and provided $67,043,422 in community benefit in 2002. This included charity care, unpaid costs of Medicare/Medicaid, housing for patient families, free health screenings, lectures, support groups, Safety First Rally and negative margins from Emergency Services, Renal Dialysis, and Hospice

Perhaps a better glimpse at the breadth of Benefis services provided to the communities in Northcentral Montana :

  1. 28,703 patients seen at our Convenience Care Center ,
  2. Approximately 30,180 patients were seen in the ER,
  3. 1,420 babies were born at Benefis,
  4. 659,200 meals were served at Benefis Healthcare in 2003,
  5. 8,460 surgeries were performed in the Benefis Operating Rooms in the year 2003,
  6. 111,119 patients were seen/treated on an outpatient basis, and
  7. 14,896 patients were discharged after receiving quality healthcare.

As the area's largest not-for-profit employer, Benefis paid out $83 million (2003) to 2025 employees in compensation and benefits, and had a total operating expense in 2003 of $163.6 million. There are 216 members of the Benefis medical staff, representing 47 specialties.

Continued construction and enhancements at Benefis' physical buildings is on going. Benefis is in the process of building and reconstructing space for a state-of-the-art $20 million dollar operating suite, will be building a free-standing cancer center and has been completely renovating its many service lines with the latest in technology and enhancements for the ease and benefit of its patients and community.

Great Falls Clinic
Established in 1917, the Great Falls Clinic is the fourth-oldest provider-owned medical Clinic west of the Mississippi . Originally based on the concept that quality health care need not be confined to large urban center, the Clinic's vision today is focused on becoming Montana 's health care provider of choice.

Comprised of over 130 physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, and 600 therapists, technologists/technicians and staff in primary through specialty care areas, we serve the one-quarter million residents of central Montana. In addition to offering patients the full complement of medical care, the Great Falls Clinic also provides on-site radiological services such as CT scanning, MRI, general and cardiac nuclear imaging, ultrasound, a completely configured clinical laboratory and much more. The Clinic also operates a fully staffed and equipped ambulatory Surgical Center adjacent to our Main Facility and maintains a regional presence with satellite locations in Choteau, Fairfield and Helena and outreach services to over 20 Montana communities.

Clinic folks are most excited about the opening of a new 108,000-square-foot Specialty Center . The Center, scheduled to open in 2005, will include new capabilities in Surgery and Surgical Subspecialties, Radiology, Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Orthopedics, Cardiac Services and Ophthalmology.

The Great Falls Clinic is pursuing an aggressive recruitment plan. As of spring 2004, 14 new physicians will join the Great Falls Clinic ensuring the ability to provide high quality care for patients and the best-quality practice for physicians.
